about

Crystal Llamas (she/her/hers) is one part thinker and one part feeler. She loves subtleties, minutiae, and technicalities but lives for disarray, wild expressions, and limitlessness. Frolicking from one idea to another, she finds comfort in the most basic necessities: water, raw vegetables, solitude, and open spaces.
Fearless in thought and curious in nature, Crystal values self-awareness. She’s drawn to like-minded folks who are passionate about deconstructing norms and redefining success.
While her academic journey is straightforward—a B.S. in biology and a minor in neuroscience from the University of San Francisco—her personal journey has been less traditional. Upon graduating Cum Laude in 2015, illnesses intercepted professional paths, delaying employment, but liberating purpose. Her time has never been lost, just allocated for other journeys.
Writing
Navigating the world of disability, Crystal found her way into a new sphere: writing. She freelances for Migraine Again, a trusted website and community for people with migraine and headache disorders. Her work has also been published in UK Fibromyalgia magazine, Everyday Health, bpHope, and Asthma & Allergy Network.
Advocacy
With advocacy and healing at the heart of her work, Crystal has volunteered and written for the Migraine World Summit, an international event bringing together experts and leaders in the field of migraine and headache disorders. She’s also completed the Migraine Masterclass and the Miles for Migraine Advocacy Connection Training Program.
In Fall 2024 and 2025, Crystal joined the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy (AHDA) for Headache on the Hill: a federal advocacy day in which patients, caregivers, and doctors advocate for equitable policies at the legislative level for the 40 million Americans living with headache disorders. She also volunteers on AHDA’s DEI Committee.
In 2025, Crystal secured a local proclamation for Migraine and Headache Disorders Awareness month in June. She helped local libraries support this cause as well.
Crystal’s journey with migraine and advocacy has been featured on CBS and in the San Mateo Daily Journal.
Putting It All Together
Crystal’s writing reflects her approach to life: utilize pain as a source of creativity and an opportunity to deepen the connection to self and others. Her future aspirations are her current daydreams: Writing books, making music, and creating safe, inclusive, and accessible spaces.
Intrigued by the richness of it all, she’s at home in her head—perceiving, collecting, analyzing, and processing the world around her. When she finds what she seeks, she stores it for keeps. Her findings thus far…
Growth is radical.
Time is limited.
Space is precious.
Creation is necessary.
